Gavin Brouder won the two-mile one-furlong novice handicap chase on the nine-year-old Sayitfirst at Sligo on Wednesday. Owned by the Profit In Your Pocket Racing Club and trained in County Galway by Darren Collins, the 15/2 chance headed Edward and Patrick Harty’s front-running 2/1 favourite Clonshire River at the final fence to win by three and a half lengths.
Gordon Elliott landed a double with Jack Kennedy and Danny Gilligan both riding 18/1 winners for him.
Kennedy won the two-mile five-furlong beginners' chase on the five-year-old Stretchemout. She led at the final fence and battled well to beat Adrian Murray’s 9/1 shot Hurricane Honey by a neck. Gilligan had a far easier time as Riaan bounced back to form to win the conditions’ chase over the same distance.
The Philip Reynolds-owned eight-year-old registered his fourth career win, and his first in a little over two years, when coming through to lead at the final fence and beat Noel Meade’s 10/11 favourite Jesse Evans by three and three-parts of a length.
Sam Curling recorded his own double when Phillip Enright and Sean O'Keeffe rode winners at Clonmel on Thursday. Qunneofthelodge, owned by the Sink Or Swim Syndicate, scored for the trainer and Enright when easily taking the two and a half-mile mares’ handicap hurdle.
The 5/1 co-favourite led after the third-last hurdle and was clear between the last two to win by four and three-parts of a length from Pat Foley’s 6/1 shot Colleen Danu. O’Keeffe had to work a little harder for his success on the five-year-old Sallap in the near three-mile handicap hurdle to complete the Curling double. He brought the Willie Cleary-owned 14/1 chance from off the pace to lead before the second-last hurdle to beat Liz Doyle’s 8/1 shot Great Bird by three-parts of a length.
Jack Kennedy shared another winner with Gordon Elliott as the three-mile rated novice chase went the way of the Gigginstown House Stud-owned What’s Up Darling. A strong 11/8 favourite, the eight-year-old led at the fourth-last fence and was clear early in the straight to beat Ross O'Sullivan’s Donnie Devito by an easy 10 lengths.
Jack Kennedy and Gordon Elliott landed the two-mile maiden hurdle with the Gigginstown House Stud-owned Ma Jacks Hill at Gowran Park on Friday. On his jumping debut, the 11/4 chance got the better of Henry de Bromhead’s 4/5 favourite Los Blanco after the final hurdle to score by three-parts of a length.
Kennedy rode one of Elliott’s two winners at Gowran Park on Saturday. The Mayo National and Galway Plate winner Western Fold scored a taking success for the trainer and Danny Gilligan in the Grade 2 PWC Champion Chase.
The well-supported 5/6 favourite made much of the running and asserted before the third-last fence to beat Noel Meade’s 3/1 shot Affordale Fury by four and a quarter lengths with the Willie Mullins-trained 5/2 chance Blood Destiny two and a quarter lengths away in third place.
Elliott followed up as the Kennedy-ridden Boston Rover took the two and a half-mile handicap chase for owner Derek Barry. The 6/4 favourite led before the final fence to beat Liz Doyle’s 12/1 shot Ballybawn Belter by three and a half lengths.
Jack Kennedy brought his week’s tally to five when partnering the Sean Allen-trained Cappa Hill to take the two-mile handicap hurdle for his owner/breeder Eileen O’Connor at Tipperary on Sunday. A 3/1 chance, the five-year-old led after the final hurdle to beat Mark Molloy’s 14/1 shot Littlefoot by a length and a half.
