Abbeydorney are out of the AIB Munster Intermediate Club Hurling Championship.
They were beaten in their 1/4 final, by O’Callaghans Mills.
The Clare side won by 1-19 to 1-17 at Cusack Park, Ennis.
Abbeydorney raced into a 4 points to no score lead by the 9 minute mark. Jack Sheehan scored twice, with Michael O'Leary and Michael Slattery also putting over. The Clare side then registered their opening point but by the 12th minute had also registered 6 wides. Playing against the wind Abbeydorney led by double scores after quarter of an hour; 6 points to 3. By the 19 minute mark Abbeydorney led by a solitary point at 0-7 to 0-6. Michael O'Leary then doubled that advantage, the same player quickly putting his side 3 in front. It was 11 to 7 after 23 minutes. The Clare outfit narrowed the gap to 12 points to 10 by the 27th minute. That's how it stood at the break.
The gap was still 2 seven minutes into the second period, at 14 points to 12. After O'Dorney went 3 clear an O'Callaghans Mills goal brought the Clare side level. That Jacob Loughnane strike made it 0-15 to 1-12 after 10 minutes of the second half. O'Callaghans Mills went 1 point in front at the 3/4 stage. Abbeydorney meanwhile hit 4 wides in a row and fell behind by 4 with 5 minutes to go. Abbeydorney were trailing by 5 in added on time when a Kevin Vairan goal gave them a lifeline at 1-18 to 1-16. O’Callaghans Mills went right up the other end to go 3 clear. Abbeydorney pulled a point back and were then denied a winning goal when Oisin Maunsell's effort was saved by Killian Nugent.
