SIPTU has called on the Government to reverse a decision whereby the pensions of retired public sector workers who return to work in the State sector are reduced.
This change came into effect in January last year.
However, the pension reduction, or abatement as it’s officially called, isn’t applied to the public sector worker’s pension if they come back to work through an agency.
Jerry spoke to Donie Doody of SIPTU and to Joni Hartnett from Tralee, who retired as a nurse in 2017. She returned to work after the HSE asked her to help administer the Covid vaccine.
