Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty who grew up in Killarney helped save the lives of around 6,500 Jewish people and Allied soldiers in Rome during World War II. There is a mural in his honour on the Matt Talbot Road in Tralee. Over the weekend, the image was defaced with a reference to Hitler and a Hitler-style moustache daubed on the monsignor’s image.
