A man was arrested following a three hour standoff with gardaí in the West Limerick town last night. The man had barricaded himself into a house on Main Street with access to items such as domestic knives and weapons. He threatened to harm himself and hurt anyone who entered the building. There was a media blackout and roads were sealed off while gardaí negotiated with the man. Fortunately, no one was harmed. Fianna Fáil councillor Francis Foley lives in Abbeyfeale.
