The Government’s announcement in last week’s budget that it will introduce a 10% levy on concrete is proving contentious. It’s to be introduced to pay for the Mica redress scheme to compensate homeowners whose houses were built with defective Mica blocks. The Taoiseach says the scheme is designed so that the industry responsible for the scandal will pay for compensating those affected. Sinn Féin says the industry will simply pass the cost on to those buying new homes. Jerry gets the view of Donald Lynch who owns KPH Construction in Kenmare.
