The funeral took place yesterday of Pearse McAuley, one of the IRA men who killed Detective Garda Jerry McCabe from Ballylongford in 1996. The former IRA prisoner later served eight years of a 12-year sentence for a savage attack on his hen wife, now Sinn Féin TD Pauline Tully.
