Yesterday protestors held crosses outside the monthly meeting of Kerry County Council. It was led by musician Breanndán Begley who built a wooden cabin on an articulated truck trailer because he wasn’t given planning to build a house on the Dingle Peninsula.
He says he’s been threatened with an enforcement order to remove the structure, or he faces two years in jail, or a fine of €12.6 million. Last week Mr Begley erected 235 wooden crosses in his field as part of a protest over planning permission; he says the crosses represent the number of people who used to live in the area in 1841. Mr Begley spoke to Mary Mullins.
