The Cabinet have decided to advise President Michael D Higgins to grant Cordal native John Twiss a posthumous pardon 126 years after his execution. John Twiss from Cordal, Castleisland was hanged in Cork County Gaol in 1895 for the murder of John Donovan. There’s proof that John Twiss was in Cordal at the time the murder took place in Newmarket. Deputy Government Chief Whip and Fine Gael TD Brendan Griffin and John Roche from Castleisland, who were behind the campaign, react to the latest development:
