Opening Topics: Conviction Appeal and Complaints to Children’s Ombudsman – June 23rd, 2021

At the start of today’s show, Jerry speaks briefly to solicitor Pádraig O’Connell about his clients’ decision to appeal against the convictions they received after they pleaded guilty to assault. 23-year-old Ronan Buckley of Lahard, Beaufort, who is a senior footballer for Kerry, and his East Kerry team mate, 22-year—old Christopher O’Donoghue of Inch, Clonkeen, Killarney appeared before Killarney District Court on Monday. Jerry then speaks to Nuala Ward, who’s the head of complaints and investigations for the Ombudsman for Children’s Office. Last year, 3% of the office’s complaints came from Kerry.
