MEP Mairead McGuinness has been named as Phil Hogan's successor as Ireland's EU Commissioner. She was selected by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, after both she and Andrew McDowell were interviewed for the role yesterday. MEP McGuinness will take over the responsibility for financial services. Fine Gael and Ireland South MEP Sean Kelly says it’s a good appointment:
