Although the Fianna Fáil candidate has withdrawn from the presidential election after reports emerged that he had not paid €3,300 owed to a former tenant, Jim Gavin’s name will remain on the ballot. Jerry spoke to Dr Eoin O’Malley of the DCU School of Law and Government and Dr Adrian Kavanagh, assistant professor of geography, who’s also a psephologist – someone who studies elections. He asked them about the implications of this for the vote on October 24th in terms of potential spoiled votes and whether a number one vote for Jim Gavin should be counted.
