Out of Innocence, which is being released today, is based on events in Kerry in 1984; the discovery of a murdered baby and the ensuing garda investigation which led to the wrongful treatment of an innocent family. Michael Fox O’Connor from Tralee says out of respect to the family, the film should not have been made. Others would argue that it is important to remember the conditions in Irish society at the time including attitudes towards unmarried mothers and children born outside of marriage.
