That’s the view of the Irish Society of Physicians in Geriatric Medicine. Its chair Des O’Neill says a HSE plan to speed up the discharge of older patients from hospitals is ageist. The CEO of the HSE Bernard Gloster issued a memo to hospitals proposing that elderly patients who are waiting for a nursing home will have to take the first place offered – at least temporarily.
