Munster Technological University Kerry has honoured one of its lecturers, Dr Karen Weekes, who is the first Irish oarswoman to make a solo transatlantic crossing. Dr Weekes is a sports psychology lecturer. She left the Canary Islands on December 6th and after rowing over 2,600 nautical miles, she arrived on the Caribbean island of Barbados on February 24th. Karen’s originally from Kinvara in County Galway but has worked for 17 years at MTU Kerry. She spoke to Mary Gallagher at her homecoming event.
