Michael Kilcoyne, chair of the Consumers’ Association of Ireland, says the Government needs to intervene to ensure that people who have not received the full €200 energy credit receive this. The Government’s €200 credit, designed to help with rising energy costs, was listed on bills as a €176.22 credit line. But the full discount was expected to be €200 when VAT was factored in. However, when the VAT on energy bills was cut from 13.5% to 9% at the beginning of May, it meant that some people didn’t get the full €200 off their bill.
