A judge has said a number of elderly people being pressured into paying large amounts of money for small jobs is alarming.
Judge Gerard O’Brien was speaking in Cork Criminal Court, following the sentencing of two Kerrymen for fraud and money-laundering offences. The court heard that an elderly woman was asked if she wanted her driveway washed by a man; she said yes, however, a price was not agreed. The man subsequently charged €2,700 for around 3 hours work. Peter Kavanagh is with Age Action Ireland.
