Kerry County Councillor Jim Finucane of Fine Gael believes the Government – which his party is a member of – needs to be more urgent in its response to the prospect of energy blackouts this winter. He says this combined with the rising costs of energy means the proposed liquefied natural gas terminal on the Tarbert Ballylongford landbank is essential in providing Ireland with energy security. An Bord Pleanála is due to make a decision on the Shannon LNG terminal on September 9th.
