Concerns Whether Some Public Offices Will Remain Closed – May 31st, 2022

Jerry spoke to Cllr Michael Kilcoyne of the Consumers’ Association of Ireland. Some offices in the public sector that closed during the pandemic have yet to reopen. After the broadcast, Kerry County Council sent us this statement: “The Motor Tax Office is open and has been open to public access since the restrictions lifted in relation to public offices. During the pandemic lockdowns, staff in the Motor Tax Office continued to process applications by post and to deal with enquiries via telephone and email. Applications for motor tax discs which are currently brought to the office at Princes’ Quay are validated and processed through the postal service within one working day. Kerry County Council is satisfied that this system is working efficiently and providing a quick turnaround on applications for motor tax discs from members of the public.” The statement went on to say that the Kerry Motor Tax Office’s voicemail message has been updated and that the council regrets the error.
