Last week, the HSE announced a new advocacy service for young people who are availing of child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) in Kerry. A report published in January found that hundreds of children were harmed or put at risk of harm while being treated at South Kerry CAMHS. Cormac Williams is a retired psychiatric nurse and former Kerry for the Psychiatric Nurses’ Association. He believes it’s impossible to advocate for child patients when in his opinion, the CAMHS service is wholly inadequate.
