Yesterday’s Fine Gael four MEPs issued a statement in which they expressed concern that the West Limerick refinery – a major employer in the region – might be fuelling Russia’s war in Ukraine. Reports suggested that alumina which is extracted from bauxite at the plant, is being exported to Russia, where it is eventually used to support Russia’s war cause; the company has denied this.
