Niall O’Keeffe is head of international and migration with the Irish Red Cross. The Red Cross along with Dora, the Irish Refugee Council, and Nasc, the Migrant and Refugee Rights Centre are running a Community Sponsorship Ireland programme, at the request of the Government, to help find groups who will support 15 Syrian refugee families. Two years ago, the Irish Refugee Protection Programme selected these families for resettlement to Ireland. These families went to Lebanon to escape the civil war in Syria but have found themselves at risk of being displaced yet again due to the volatile situation in Lebanon.
