Yesterday, Jerry played an excerpt from CNN journalist Donie O’Sullivan’s investigation into deep fake voice calls. Donie generated his voice using AI technology and rang his parents in Cahersiveen to see if they would notice the difference. There might be one challenge facing the world of Artificial Intelligence though – will it be able to understand and replicate the Kerry accent? That got us thinking of a piece that John Drummey recorded for Radio Kerry back in 2006 after callers had told him they had trouble getting through to Eircom, as Eir was called then, as the automated service didn’t recognise the Kerry accent.
