Bootcamp Blitz: Rose Escorts Put to the Test in Wild Weekend in Kerry
There were flips, flops, and plenty of laughs as 32 of Ireland’s finest – this year’s official Rose Escorts – descended on Kerry for a high-octane, high-energy adventure that tested everything from their stamina to their ironing skills.
Cork and Dublin topped the list of successful Rose Escort applicants again for this year’s Festival with four each making the shortlist of 32 chosen after a gruelling Rose Escort Bootcamp in Co Kerry, while teaching is the most popular profession among the group.
The annual Rose Escort Bootcamp kicked off at the Meadowlands Hotel in Tralee, where the young men were officially welcomed and posed for the cameras before sizing up the competition.
But the relaxed start was short-lived. Over the next 48 hours, the chosen few – whittled down from hundreds of hopefuls – took part in a jam-packed itinerary that brought them across the Kingdom and back, with just enough time to catch their breath (and maybe a few midges).
From open-top buses to mountaintop hikes, whiskey tastings to dolphin sightings, the week

Blink and you could miss him as Bar Manager Neil O'Shea was moving like a flash through Tralee Town with a trolley laden with barrels of beer as he was preparing for a busy weekend. Yours Moss Joe Browne.
Good morning Joe & Dominic. I have one pic at least ( the month is young yet). This is a snapshot of Larry, Curly & Moe ready & waiting for their morning beers. Thanks for a wonderful , helpful photographic slot each month on Radio Kerry. Dominic, I applaud your kindness & generosity. Go ndeirí an tá libh. Agnes O’Sullivan
Hi Joe and Dominic . Hope you like my choice. The first was self explanatory a guy taking a picture an I took one of him. The second back in the day when a child would make a daisy chain. The 3rd picture you often see pictures of cattle during the day but not at night. This farmer moves his cattle at night when the roads are quiet. Thanks for looking at my pictures from Ita Hannon

Hi Joe an Domnick, Attached are my photos for this month. I was getting ready to cut the lawn and as you can see it needed it!! I have taken three different angles of the lawnmower on a beautiful sunny day which really showed up the colours of nature.
- Getting ready to cut the lawn
- The flowers before the chop
3 Two buttercups looking over the wheel.
Regards, Siobhan O'Connor
Hello Joe and Domnick, I did not venture too far to find an object for my June photos. I have had a small paperweight in my kitchen for many years. The outside is clear glass, and the core is blue with a white stripe. I took one picture of the full paperweight standing on the countertop - the clear glass seemed to pick up the surrounding colours. Secondly, I put the paperweight horizontally on the counter and was happy to capture the side view and its partial reflection. My third picture is a close-up of a portion of the paperweight - I was aiming for a more abstract image, but didn't manage it. Thank you both, Margaret O'Shea
Dominic, Out cycling along Canal one evening and spotted the two adults swans with 8 cygnets. Lucky to capture them with windmill in background. Had heard of the 8 cygnets but didn't know a pair of swans could have that many. Must have adopted. Ha. Taken with a Google Pixel 7 phone. Regards Jim O’Donovan
Hi Joe and Dominic one subject many angles . Always look up when in the woods. Brendan Kissane
