John and Rachel O’Connor from Currans were finalists in the 2025 Kerry Dairy Ireland Milk Quality & Sustainability Awards. They run a grass-based dairy farm with 100 cows, focusing on sustainable practices, including a no-antibiotics drying-off policy with a 95% success rate. The O’Connors balance their farming commitments with family life, involving their children in the farm and using farm relief services to ensure time together. Looking ahead, they plan further improvements through the Evolve programme.
