Valentia Observatory has recorded its wettest August since 2009.

Last month, almost 220 millimetres of rain fell at the south Kerry weather station, almost twice the facility’s average rainfall for the month of August.

Valentia had the highest total rainfall of any weather station according to Met Eireann, it also had its wettest August day since 1986.

On August 24th, 52 millimetres of rain fell; that is 45% of Valentia’s monthly rainfall average in a single day.

10 dull days were recorded at Valentia and the average temperature was 15.7 degrees.
