One of the biggest challenges facing society is how we are going to get people back to telling the truth, according to Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae.
The minister was speaking this afternoon in Valentia at a conference on Ireland’s place in the world of 2040.
This is the ninth annual Valentia Lecture which is taking place at the transatlantic cable station.
Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae said there are people who are making a career out of negativity and commenting on people they don’t know.
He said this doesn’t mean that politicians and others shouldn’t be challenged, but criticism must be based on facts and policies.
The Kerry TD said that young children are being exposed to a dark and dangerous world and it is something we have to tackle together as a society.
He said that we must do something productive with our lives, help others and make a difference. The minister said that cornerstone media such as radio, newspapers and TV must be respected for telling the truth.
Michael Healy-Rae said that as a society we need to be all heading in the same direction, protecting the vulnerable and promoting Kerry and Ireland in a positive way.
