Valentia Coast Guard advises Bank Holiday swimmers to be aware of very cold water temperatures

Valentia Coast Guard has advised Bank Holiday swimmers to be aware of the cold water temperatures if they are planning any open water swims.

Swimmers should enter the water slowly to help them to adjust and reduce the risk of cold-water shock.

People have also be advised to wear a brightly coloured swim hat and to know their limits, and stay within a depth they are comfortable with.

As well as this, the Coast Guard has asked people to ensure that they are wearing life jackets at all times when on boats in the open water.

The RNLI, Irish Coast Guard and Water Safety Ireland, say strong winds are expected, leading to rough seas and potentially large swells

Members of the public are being warned to check weather conditions before embarking on any water activities on the coast.
