Two housing estates in Kerry are to receive over €400,000 in funding for water services.

Fine Gael TD and Deputy Government Chief Whip Brendan Griffin says the funding is part of the Water Services Infrastructure Resolution Programme, which is focused on housing estates not under the council's remit for water provision.

Deputy Griffin says the funding is focused on housing estates which are not taken-in-charge by Kerry County Council and do not have their water services connected to the public water services network.

These estates are relying on infrastructure, often temporary in nature, which was provided by developers.

€401,000 is to be provided to two estates in Killarney: Old Killarney Village and Birch Hill Estates.

Deputy Griffin says this funding will benefit many families who have been relying on substandard developer-provided wastewater or drinking water treatment plants.

He adds the allocation of this funding marks the first step in the taking-in-charge of these estates by Kerry County Council.
