A Tralee woman and infectious disease specialist says it’s vital to recruit doctors and nurses ahead of the winter season.

Professor Mary Horgan says the COVID-19 pandemic has presented a challenging time for both society and medicine.

The Tralee woman has been re-elected by Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland as President, to serve a second term of office.

She says she supports the HSE’s Winter Plan, and adds it’s also important to retain the doctors we have, as well as recruiting more.

Professor Mary Horgan says the pandemic has shown the benefits of working outside of large urban areas.

She believes now’s the time to promote this to help retain graduates:
