A Tralee woman, who’s a survivor of a mother and baby home, has called for all institutional lands to be fully investigated for unmarked burials before any land is rezoned, sold or developed.
Catherine Coffey O’Brien went to Nazareth House orphanage and industrial school in Tralee which was run by the Mercy Order.
She was put into the Bessborough Mother and Baby Home in Cork in the late 1980s when she became pregnant.
Ms Coffey O’Brien, who has been a campaigner for survivors, says the dead have rights too.
She says the findings of the latest report show that authorities must look at re-excavating grounds of mother and baby homes, orphanages and other institutions to establish if there are unmarked graves.
Ms Coffey O’Brien also called for the excavation of Nazareth House orphanage in Balloonagh, Tralee which was also a Magdalene Laundry in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
