Thomas Ashe Cup donated to Kerry County Museum permanently

The Thomas Ashe Cup has been donated to the Kerry County Museum on a permanent basis.

The cup was presented and paid for by the Old IRA and LDF in 1944, as a challenge trophy between Kerry LDF groups and later FCA Platoons from the six FCA companies in Kerry.

The competitions were seriously contested in rifle marksmanship, footdrills, and tactical exercises at summer camps in Ballymullen Barracks Tralee.

In 2008 the cup was given on loan to Kerry County Museum by the Thomas Ashe Branch of Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann .

It was recently decided that the branch would donate the cup to the museum on a permanent basis.

Recently a formal handover was carried out between Helen O 'Carroll Curator of the Kerry County Museum and Branch members of the One Thomas Ashe Branch
