Thermometers given by the HSE for use in the Skellig Star Accommodation Centre were returned because they did not work.
This was revealed in correspondence received and sent by HSE officials who were monitoring the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19 in the Cahersiveen direct provision centre in May.
Following the outbreak of COVID-19, two contactless thermometers were provided by the HSE to test residents in the Cahersiveen direct provision centre.
On the 7th May, the person tasked with using the contactless thermometers emailed Louise Carlton, a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Infectious Diseases, saying the two thermometers given by the HSE were not working.
The unidentified person said they seem to be of a lower quality to the one they already owned.
In response, the HSE forwarded on a possible explanation for the malfunctioning equipment from the manufacturer and asked if additional thermometers were required.
The two thermometers were subsequently returned to the HSE.
The correspondence was released under the FOI Act to NAISC Skellig Kerry Diaspora Network.
