A ten-year-old boy has been brought to University Hospital Kerry, after getting into difficulties in the water off a West Kerry beach.

The alarm was raised just after 4 o'clock this afternoon, following the incident at Coumeenole beach near Slea Head.

The boy was taken from the beach by the Shannon 115 rescue helicopter, in an operation co-ordinated by Valentia Coast Guard with the assistance of Dingle Coast Guard.

The boy's condition is not yet known, but it's understood he was alert when airlifted by the helicopter.
