The Government is to issue a formal state apology to victims of abuse in industrial schools today.
It comes after a 51-day hunger strike outside Leinster House, ending last November, by four survivors, three of whom are from Kerry.
Maurice Patton O’Connell, Miriam Moriarty Owens and Mary Donovan were child inmates of Pembroke Alms Industrial School in Tralee, while Mary Dunlevy Greene was placed in an industrial school in Limerick.
They wanted free, comprehensive health services and a State contributory pension after what happened to them when they were children.
The Government has agreed additional supports for them, including health, education, housing and funeral costs.
The Taoiseach and Tánaiste will formally apologise to survivors in the Dáil later.
