The solicitor of a woman accused of assault causing harm has criticised social media commentary surrounding the alleged incident.
Padraig O’Connell was speaking after his client Clodagh Canney appeared at Tralee District Court facing one charge.
The court heard more charges are being considered in the case.
Killarney-based solicitor Padraig O’Connell was speaking after the sitting in Tralee District Court today.
He said that there is widespread erroneous social media attributing racism to his client, adding this allegation is absolutely refuted as baseless.
44-year-old Clodagh Canney of Cluain Láir, Lohercannon, Tralee appeared before Judge David Waters in relation to an incident in July.
It’s alleged that on the night of the All-Ireland football final that she assaulted a woman on Castle Street in Tralee, causing her harm.
At Tralee District Court, Sergeant Chris Manton told the judge that DPP directions are not yet available in the case.
The court heard Ms Canney is a carer on €380 per week and an application for free legal aid was made.
The state had no objection to this and a statement of means was presented to the judge.
Addressing the accused, Judge Waters asked her to confirm this was her sworn signature, to which she replied “yes”.
Sgt Manton outlined that a medical report for the injured party is not yet available and more charges are being considered by the state.
Judge Waters remanded Ms Canney on bail to appear before Tralee District Court on October 22nd for DPP directions.
