A rescue operation was launched in Ballybunion yesterday evening following reports that a person might be in difficulty in the water.
The call for help came just before 5pm after someone lost sight of another person who was in waist high waters on the long beach in Ballybunion.
Ballybunion Sea and Cliff Rescue, the Shannon-based rescue helicopter R115, Gardaí and the Ballybunion Coast Guard all attended the scene.
Just before 6.30pm, the operation was stood down and the incident was recorded as a false alarm with good intent.
Ballybunion Sea and Cliff Rescue and the R115 both stated they are happy to respond to any call that has good intent and they encouraged people to always make the call if they fear someone may need assistance in the water.
