Radio Kerry is one of 16 independent radio stations in the country participating in world-first project to capture environmental changes through sound.
The project is part of the environmental series Ours to Protect and is supported by scientists from Harvard and Copenhagen universities.
For this first-of-its-kind project Radio Kerry has been working with schools and youth organisations to decide the location of the recording devices and what species or ecosystems to monitor.
The results will be unveiled in the final episode of the series in October,
It is the first time the technology is being used for journalistic purposes.
The Ours to Protect radio programmes are being made with the assistance of Coimisiún na Meán’s Sound and Vision Scheme and the Television License Fee, and are broadcast on the first and third Thursday of the month at 10.40am on Radio Kerry.
This is the second series and focuses on the voices, opinions and questions of young people in schools and organisations around the county.
