Kerry Fine Gael TD and Government Deputy Chief Whip Brendan Griffin has been told that the National Parks and Wildlife Service aims to have a new carpark at Tomies completed by the end of 2020.

In late 2018, funding was announced to develop pubic access and a carpark at Tomies Woods, which bounds Lough Leane outside Killarney.

In response to a Dáil question this week from Deputy Brendan Griffin, Minister Catherine Martin said the contract tendering process is now nearing completion.

It is intended to commence works shortly with a view to completion by the end of the year, weather permitting.

Deputy Griffin has welcomed the news, saying it’s important that works commence without delay to take advantage of summer weather conditions.

The Keel TD says it’s now crucial to get it completed for the benefit of locals and visitors.

The Government’s Deputy Chief Whip adds COVID-19 has made people aware that the outdoors are going to play a larger role than ever in the future of tourism.
