NPHET has named Killarney as an area where rates of COVID-19 are relatively high. This follows on from a marked increase in the incidence rate in the greater Killarney area over the past number of weeks.

During the fortnight up to July 5th, Killarney LEA had the highest rate of COVID-19 in the county, with 49 cases over the fortnight, giving an incidence rate of 166 per population. The rate was more than double the rate two weeks prior.

Information released by NPHET last evening shows this prevalence hasn’t lessened; the area now has a rate of 155 cases per 100,000 population.

According to NPHET, this is among the top 15 highest rates in the Republic. Carndonagh and Buncrana continue to have the highest incidence rates in the county.
