The National Ambulance Service (NAS) hopes to open a new ambulance base in South Kerry in the coming weeks.
The service worked with Kerry’s integrated health area manager and with HSE Estates to identify a suitable HSE-owned building in Killorglin.
HSE South West updated Cllr Norma Moriarty on the development at the recent Regional Health Forum.
It says it hopes an agreement can be reached with existing stakeholders to allow this fourth dispatch point begin service shortly.
The Killorglin ambulance base will operate between eight in the morning (8am) and eight at night (8pm), due to resourcing levels.
A solo paramedic with a rapid response vehicle (RRV) will also be stationed in the base on a limited number of nights.
The HSE said it intends to hire paramedics in South Kerry in the 2026 new service posts (NSP) submission, and to increase the base’s service in the future.
