Decisions on whether to opt-out of organ donation should be based on factual information from trusted sources.
That’s the plea from the mother of Kerry boy Cíalan Walsh, who needs a kidney transplant.
The nine-year-old, who's from Waterville, was born with a condition whereby he had only one functioning kidney.
However, his kidney's function has declined so much, that he is on over 10 hours of dialysis every night and needs a kidney transplant urgently.
His mother, Fiona, says she respects people’s decision if they decide to opt-out of organ donation; but, it’s important the decision is grounded on fact, and not on unfounded claims online:
She is urging people to seek their information on organ donation from sources including the Irish Kidney Association and the HSE.
