A Minister of State has said Kerry County Council shouldn’t be let off the hook over the disruption caused by the closure of a North Kerry road.
The council has closed the Duagh to Kilmorna road between Foildarrig junction and Kilmorna junction until 11th December to allow for monitoring of the structure of Foildarrig Bridge.
The council had applied for funding to solve the erosion of the bridge last year but was unsuccessful, and remedial works were carried out in the spring.
The issue was raised at Monday’s meeting of Kerry County Council, where Director of Services Paul Neary said the water level was too high to inspect the structure.
In the Seanad this week, Listowel Senator Mike Kennelly said the severity of the situation in North Kerry cannot be understated.
Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Jerry Buttimer, said the council is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of local and regional roads.
