A Minister of State is calling for the National Immunisation Advisory Committee to answer questions about the potential mixing of vaccine doses for over-60s.

The original 12-week gap between the first and second doses of AstraZeneca is being shortened, but there have been calls to mix vaccines to get people fully vaccinated quicker, amid concerns over the transmissibility of the Delta variant.

Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, Patrick O'Donovan, says any delay to reopening must be done in tandem with speeding up the second vaccine doses for over-60s.

He adds he's receiving a huge amount of calls from people who have had one dose of an AstraZeneca vaccine, wondering if they can get a second jab of Moderna or Pfizer.

Minister O'Donovan says they're legitimate questions, and the National Immunisation Advisory Committee needs to answer them soon.
