A message in a bottle sent from Canada almost 13 years-ago finally reached land this week, when it was found on a West Kerry beach.
In September 2012, a couple called Brad and Anita wrote about their trip to Bell Island in Newfoundland, put the note in a bottle and despatched it into the Atlantic Ocean.
This week Kate Gay found the bottle, over 3,200km away, in Scraggane Bay on The Maharees.

Kate read out Brad and Anita's message.

Following the bottle’s discovery amongst the seaweed, members of Creative Ireland Neart na Macharaí (Mock-a-ree) held a meeting in Kate’s house.
After a number of attempts to get the message from inside, they were forced to break the glass bottle, and subsequently called the number on the note.
There was no answer from this phone number; so the group took to social media to see if they could make contact with Brad and Anita.
Martha Farrell from the environmental and cultural group, explains what happened next.
