A 34-year-old Tralee man has been fined €1,100.00 for the possession of drugs and public order offences.
Mark McCrohan of 14 Cloonnanorig, Tralee pleaded guilty to acting in a threatening, abusive or insulting manner in a public place in a way that might provoke a breach of the peace.
Tralee District Court heard Mr McCrohan was involved in an altercation on Castle Street, Tralee during the homecoming parade for the Kerry senior football team on 28 July (2025).
Judge David Waters heard Mr McCrohan attempted to start a fight with a couple.
He also pleaded guilty to possessing €5 of cannabis on the same occasion, and to the possession of €48 of alprazolam, also known as Xanax, at Tralee Garda Station, on the 8 November 2024 contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977.
He had four previous convictions, including for drug driving, and for the possession of cannabis in the UK.
Defence solicitor, Padraig O’Connell, told the court that Mr McCrohan had very serious drug difficulties but is now regularly attending addiction counselling services at Edward Court and is making progress.
Mr O’Connell described a letter from the HSE Counselling and Addiction Services, which was presented to the court, as “extremely positive”.
He asked the court to give Mr McCrohan one more chance based on these efforts, stressing his full cooperation.
Judge Waters expressed his scepticism, warning that he would consider a jail sentence if he came before him again.
Mr McCrohan was fined €400 for the public order offence and €350 for each drug offence, totalling €1,100.
