A 33-year-old man has been remanded in custody accused of a daytime spree of dangerous driving in Tralee on Tuesday.
Patryk Gutkowski, of 5 Bridgefield, Killarney, appeared in Tralee District Court facing nine charges.
He was refused bail by Judge David Waters, following objections by gardaí in court.
Gardaí allege that Mr Gutkowski drove dangerously in Tralee town centre in the middle of the afternoon on Tuesday, colliding with two vehicles and causing damage to them.
Gardaí say he was driving in a manner that caused a serious risk of injury to members of the public and members of An Garda Síochána.
Arising from this incident, he faces nine charges, including three counts of dangerous driving at Boherbee, Dean’s Lane, and Ballymullen, and two counts of criminal damage.
He’s further accused of driving without a licence or insurance at the time, and in a car which it’s alleged had a false licence plate.
He also faces a charge of possession of cannabis on the same date.
He applied for bail at Tralee District Court, but gardaí objected on the seriousness of the charges and the strength of evidence, which they say includes clear CCTV footage.
Gardaí also objected due to their concerns over Mr Gutkowski turning up to court to face the charges against him.
Representing Mr Gutkowski, solicitor Pádraig O’Connell said his client denies driving the vehicle, and that the footage and witness statements were not in court and so could not be relied upon to object to bail.
Judge David Waters refused bail, and remanded Mr Gutkowski in custody to next Wednesday, 11th February, when he will appear in court again.
His solicitor Mr O’Connell said his client will be applying for bail in the High Court.
