A man accused of multiple serious assaults in Kerry, allegedly linked to drug dealing, is to apply for bail in the High Court this week.
25-year-old Krzysztof Markowski of 207 Parklands, Tralee, is before the court on eight charges, including assault causing harm, violent disorder, and production of weapons.
Gardaí told his initial bail hearing they believe his alleged offending arises from disputes over drug debts.
It’s alleged that in the middle of the afternoon on 10th September, Mr Markowski and five other men entered an apartment in Tralee town centre and dragged a man out the window, before Mr Markowski is alleged to have kicked, stamped, and punched the man and used his belt to assault him on the street.
Separately, he is accused of striking a woman in the face with a crowbar on 7th August on Denny Street in Tralee.
Gardaí told Mr Markowski’s initial bail hearing in Mallow District Court that they believe both of these incidents relate to alleged drug debts.
He is also alleged to have entered the home of a teenager in Tralee at 2am on July 26th, before violently assaulting them with a baseball bat; gardaí believe this is related to rival drug dealing in the town.
Mr Markowski is also accused of violent disorder on the 15th March in Listowel.
Gardaí had objected to bail due to the seriousness of the charges, potential interference with witnesses, and their belief that he would not turn up to court to face the charges.
Mr Markowski’s solicitor Pádraig O’Connell submitted €1,000 in cash as a surety from his client’s mother, who was present at the hearing, to ensure her son’s attendance in court.
Judge Colm Roberts refused bail, and Mr Markowski subsequently appeared via video link in Tralee District Court two days later.
Sergeant Chris Manton said DPP directions are not available.
Mr Markowski was further remanded in custody to 8th October, when he will next appear in court.
His solicitor Pádraig O’Connell told the court that there is a bail application for his client in the High Court this week.
