Killarney has retained its top ten position in the latest litter survey by business group Irish Business Against Litter.
Killarney has been classed as cleaner than European norms, while the survey noted significant improvement in Tralee and classed the county town as clean to European norms.
The latest litter survey by IBAL shows Killarney is placed in 7th position in the ranking of 40 towns and cities.
The An Taisce report for Killarney stated it was another superb showing for the area.
Eight sites surveyed in Killarney received the top litter grade; these included Muckross Road and Cork Road Approaches, Beech Street, Main Street and Chapel Lane / Barry Lane.
The report stated the most heavily littered site in Killarney was the JYSK car park, adding it would seem that the commercial bin area needs to be better managed at this site.
Meanwhile, Tralee improved its raking and moved to 16th in the latest IBAL survey.
The An Taisce report for Tralee stated it was a very good result for the area with just one heavily littered site.
The report said it was very encouraging to see improvements at Tralee Train Station, which had been heavily littered on many previous IBAL surveys.
It added that Denny Street and The Mall were exceptionally freshly presented and maintained and very much deserving of the top litter grade.
The most heavily littered site was Daly’s Lane, with the report stating the overall presentation was poor and has seen just minor improvements that were not significant enough.
