The quick action of a Killarney father and his ability to perform save CPR saved his son’s life when his heart stopped beating at home last weekend.
24-year-old Seán Óg O’Sullivan collapsed suddenly at the family home last Sunday and his heart stopped beating.
The family quickly rang the emergency services and started doing chest compressions in a bid to save Seán Óg’s life.
His father Seán O’Sullivan took over compressions from his other son Conor until the ambulance arrived, which was just 10-minutes after the 999 call was made.
Seán O’Sullivan says it was a great help to be guided through how to provide CPR by the operator when they called emergency services:
Emergency services arrived and treated Seán Óg for over an hour at his home.
Once he was stable, Seán Óg was airlifted to hospital for further treatment, where he is now recovering well.
Tests are still being carried out to determine what exactly happened Seán Óg, but doctors have told his family that it may involve a thickening of the heart wall or a muscle around the heart.
His family are getting tested to see if it is a genetic condition.
Seán Óg’s brother Gary O’Sullivan is urging people of all ages to get monitored for heart issues:
